Golden Hour Among the Sunflowers: A Family Session at the Richmond Sunflower Festival
There is something magical about a family session in a sunflower field at golden hour. The warm evening light, the blooms and the freedom to simply play make it such a beautiful setting for capturing a family just as they are.
During a recent stint in Vancouver, I photographed this beautiful family at the Richmond Sunflower Festival. Mom was expecting baby number three, and their two little boys brought plenty of energy, personality and genuine smiles to the evening.
What I loved most was the connection we captured. The laughter, movement, cuddles and playful moments felt completely natural and so wonderfully them.
Their older son has already been asking when we can do another session and has told his parents several times how much fun he had. We hear this kind of feedback from families fairly often, and it means so much to me. My hope is always that kids remember their photography experience as something they genuinely enjoyed.
Mom's hair and makeup were done by Faye Smith Agency, and her outfit came from my client closet.
Sunflower Season in Vancouver and the Okanagan
I photograph sunflower sessions at both the Richmond Sunflower Festival in Vancouver and the Bloom Sunflower Festival in Armstrong/Spallumcheen here in the Okanagan.
The Richmond festival ran August 2 to September 14 in 2026. The Armstrong festival took a pause in 2026, with next dates still to be announced.
If sunflower photos have been on your wish list, now is the perfect time to book ahead for the next festival season.
Families who book their sunflower session in advance will receive a $100 credit toward their image order.
These sessions are limited, especially during that dreamy golden-hour light, so booking early means you can secure your date, plan your wardrobe and simply show up ready to have fun together.
Because years from now, I hope you remember more than how everyone looked.
I hope you remember how it felt to be together. 🌻
