Newborn Photography Assistant (Part-Time Contractor)

Role Summary: We are looking for a part-time assistant to assist Kim on 2-3 of her in-home newborn sessions each month, with the potential for more gigs if it’s a good fit. Our sessions take place throughout the Lower Mainland, and usually run from around 11am-2pm. We require mutual flexibility in changing session dates due to the unpredictable nature of babies being born. The Photography Assistant is Kim’s second set of hands and eyes in handling babies safely, setting up and staging the space, and helping family members look and feel their best for photos.

Growth Opportunities: After 4 months of assisting, our Photography Assistants are given the opportunity to join our roster of associate photographers for our sister company www.vancouvernewbornphotographers.com if it’s the right fit. You would be attending these sessions solo as the primary photographer, representing our brand to provide lifestyle in-home photography.

Duties:

• Respond in a timely manner to new and rescheduled booking dates

• Help to unload/load gear into family’s home, pack/unpack fabrics and props

• Assemble backdrops, props and lighting

• Move objects and stage the area as needed

• Help to soothe, settle, and spot babies in poses

• Help to pose family members and watch for details, ex. stray hairs

• Take behind-the-scenes videos on phone

• Join in interacting with parents and kids

Qualifications:

• Diploma in photography or similar qualification

• Naturally creative with a good eye for style and art

• Warm, positive, calm energy around new parents

• Familiar with professional cameras, lenses, backdrops and lighting

• Knowledge of modern photography techniques

• Good listening and communication skills

• Excellent time management and interpersonal skills

• Experience handling babies and working with children

• Access to a vehicle to attend sessions throughout the Lower Mainland

Role Expectations: The right candidate will be a good fit for the brand, with a warm and kind presence while being professional and reliable. We count on our assistants to show up on time for sessions that are booked, communicate any scheduling requests, and work with us to give our clients a positive photography experience. While we hope that are assistants have an interest in growing their own photography and businesses, we ask that our assistants and associates do not specialize in newborn photography in their own businesses for a minimum of 1 year following any work with us.

Compensation: $20/hourly to start, including travel time to and from sessions.
